China’s Increasing number of Billionaires.
China now has a record 168 billionaires in the country making it the country with the second most billionaires in the world.
According to the 2013 Forbes China Rich List, the number of people within China that have a net worth of over one billion USD has increased from 113 in 2012 and only 1 in 2003, when Forbes first began releasing the China Rich List.
The list includes 400 of the richest people in China, with their total worth increasing by 35% to 570 billion USD (approximately 602.6 billion AUD) and the total worth of the top 100 increasing by 44% compared to the previous year.
The list named Wang Jianlin as the richest man in China in 2013 and saw his worth almost double to 14.1 billion USD (approximately 14.9 billion AUD) in a year. Wang is the chairman of Dalian Wanda Group, a conglomerate focusing on commercial property, luxury hotels, culture & tourism and department stores. Like Wang, those whose wealth comes from the entertainment industry, as well as the internet, new energy and healthcare sectors, saw great increases in their total worth. This is reflective of the positive performance of these areas in the past year.
Despite perceptions of a slowing Chinese economy the number of billionaires in the country continues to increase rapidly, making China one of the countries with the world’s fastest growing number of billionaires.
